Cold remedies for babies

Harvey's caught my cold Is there anything I can do or give him to help? Would it be ok to heat some Olbas Oil on the radiator?

Hi, my LO has a cold too What I'm doing with olbas oil is what it says on the bottle - putting a drop onto a tissue and holding it near her nose. She was sleeping on me earlier and I tucked the tissue under my arm. It seemed to help!

The olbas oil does say not suitable for babies under 3m though.

Steamy environments might help too, like the bathroom with the shower running.

If he's really feeling rubbish and/or has a fever then calpol will prob help.

I'm eagerly awaiting any other tips too!

You can get saline spray or drops to use in their nose, they are suitable from birth. You can use steam with olbas oil in, karvol capsules, we have a karvol vaporiser but it is 3m+. You can take him in the bathroom when you have a bath/shower to unblock him. Snuffle Babe is like vicks for babies, rub it on his chest. If he has trouble feeding, put a bit of snuffle babe or vicks on your breast where his nose goes so he can breathe. You can also get things to suck their noses out, but Freya hated it when I tried, it annoyed her so much!

No tips on treating LO's cold, but I just wanted to advise that decongestants like sudafed can affect your milk supply, so if your cold is bad, be careful with what you take.

Feeding LO in a more upright position can help too, if he is stuffed up. I know Vicks Baby Rub and the Calpol Vapourisor are suitable for babies over 3 months, I'm not sure what can be used on a younger baby.

Squiriting a bit of breastmilk up the nose, and using a suction thingy can unblock a stuffy nose.

If only he was 3 weeks older! Thanks folks, I'm off to the chemist once Harvey has settled down a little.

the saline drops r good 4 unblocking LO nose b4 a feed (if they're having trouble feeding coz of the stuffyness) but i found the best thing when kian has a cold is a bowl of boiled water with a spoon of vix mixed in, placed under his cot overnight.
unfortunatley theres not a lot else u can do 4 colds other than just sit it out x

I got some Nasosal drops from the chemist and they seem to be doing the trick. Harvey is having some smiley time now and seems a lot brighter. He's been on the boob loads today.

My LO had a cold too last week so i trotted off to Boots, loaded up with Saline drops for the nose as well as a Karvol plug in thingy to clear up bunged up noses, also i tried to purchase some Tixylix baby syrup for coughs and colds and it was right behind the counter and the pharmacist refused to sell it as apparently they are not allowed to sell it as it has some ingrediant in it that is very addictive (why they have it on display is beyond me).. but boots do some vapour rub too which was quite good too. oooooh and Karvol drops to place on bibs. ha ha ha ha hope this helps.
