Anyone had an ECV?

Hi all, g/c from 3rd tri but thought this was the best place to ask!

My little boy is breech (i am 37 weeks today) so i have been booked in for an ECV tomorrow... was just wondering how many people have had one and what the success rate was?!

Also i am very uncomfortable with his head right in my ribs, was wondering if eases any when they are turned or if it is just a symptom you have to deal with at 37 weeks +

I feel sooooooo nervous today!

Kara xx

I didn't have an ECV in the end as my baby was born before we got to that stage. But at 36 weeks, she was still breech so I did a bit of research. There is a bit of information here, in the guidelines published by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

http://www.rcog.org.uk/womens-health...h-presentation

It gives a lot of information about success rates and in the end I decided that even if she was still breech, I wouldn't be having an ECV. That was very much my personal decision though.

Hello I too had a head stuck in my ribs, When I saw the consultant at 36 weeks he seemed to think for me there was very little water and not much point in turning baby so when i saw a doc at 37 weeks (not the same person ) I just asked for the section and had him at 39 weeks. The c section was not that bad!

Good luck with whatever you decide, its done under scan conditions so you could always go along and see what the doc says. I've heard they can be sucessful if the conditions are right!!

I couldn't have one cos I had rhesus disease and it would have made my blood levels shoot up. I looked into it and there were varying reports..sometimes sucessful ones can vary. There was some intresting stuff about turning a baby using hypnosis. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I wish I hadnt spent so long trying to get baba to turn it really messed with my head. The c section was fine for me.

Nope but I've seen it attempted and certainly wouldn't choose to have one myself

When I was pregnant with Toby, he was breech for weeks and weeks, he turned on his own at 36wks and was born the next day

I had started to look into alternative treatments but having read some of the possible side effects of ECV and watching a couple of videos I crossed it off my list, I've had enough bad luck with my babies as it is and didn't want to take anymore risks than I had to

Good luck with your decision and birth babe

I had one and it didn't work.
She'd get round a little bit but her bum could not get past my right hip. Dr said there was no way in hell she was turning!!

But I also had slightly low fluid (not enough to be a concern but enough to be mentioned iykwim?) so that may have effected the chances of success. They also left it really late to try with me as I was mucked about. It was originally meant to be done at 36wks but didn't end up being done until 39wks.

Had the ECV on the Friday and then had her on the Tuesday. (Section was booked for the Thurs lol).

The section was actually a really good experience. I wouldn't hesitate to go through it again.

I'm probably answering a little late but....I had one at 37 and half weeks, it was unsuccesfull, but I would say not a bad experience for me. I was dreading it, but I was also dreading a section. Baby's head wouldn't go past my hip, and after a couple of attempts I was booked for section a week or so later. I was sore and felt a bit bruised after, but that was the worst bit. The secton was fine too.
Whatever you decided to do, good luck x

So they didn't keep you in overnight then?????? I was told I'd be kept in for overnight observation whether it worked or not to keep baby monitored in case cord got twisted etc. I guess everywhere have their own rules

Good luck then hun....hope you recover quickly from the c-section and your little fella arrives safely

No hun i wasn't kept in overnight... after they did the ecv they scanned me to check position of the baby and make sure the placenta etc was ok and then i was on a ctg monitor for an hour to make sure he wasn't distressed and then after they had done some swabs (to check for mrsa before the c section) and had given me my anti d injection and taken the canula out of my hand i was free to go home... I think i was at the hospital for a total of 4 and a half hours xxx
