Swaddled- what next?

Hi i wonder if anyone can help?

our daughter is 16 weeks old and we have been swaddling her for sleeping. Since birth, if she was not swaddled, she would startle herself with her arms and wake up.

The last 2 nights, she has started waking up as she has partially escaped from her swaddle. However, we don't know what to do next!!!

How have other people transitioned from swaddling to not swaddling?
What did you use- blackets/ sleeping bags?
How did you go about it?

Any help would be very gratefully received!

Thanks

Lesley

We moved on to half swaddling with Byron's arms out of the blanket as he didn't want them fastened in anymore. After that we moved to a sleeping bag as he would just kick the blankets off. They do grow out of the arms jerking thing.

We did the "aussie swaddle" where their arms are only loosely swaddled then progressed to a sleeping bag. If you goggle it, there is a really good site telling you how to do it - very easy - even I can manage it!

This is the same as me, but I found letting her hold my hand until she fell asleep seemed to work for her!

We swaddled Nathan up until about 14 weeks as he startled himself with his arms too.

We started by leaving his legs out for a week, then the next week we left his left arm out and when he started to sleep ok put him in a sleeping bag.

I also found putting him in his crib/cot to fall asleep helped if he woke himself back up he could settle himself again.

(we used a miricle swaddle blanket as I just couldnt swaddle with blankets as I was rubbish lol)
