Looking for swimming hints and tips please!

Hi there

well I have bought the swimsuit and swim nappies....so what now?

Andy and I are keen to start taking Emma swimming but I am not so keen to go to organised lessons yet. Wondering what others have done to introduce their wee ones to swimming?
Did you use a float/ armbands?
What times of day worked best?
Any hints or tips you can suggest for us?

Thank you!

Lesley

I bought a rubber ring for Seren was the armbands were a bit too big but I ended up taking her out of it and just holding on to her.
I'd say the best time of the day would be when you would think is quite, so while the kids are in school, and at least an hour after her food. I timed it so that she would be due her food when I got out, you'll find she won't be in the water long as they get cold quite quickly.
The first time I took Seren she didn't exactly look thrilled, infact it was a bit of an anti climax for me lol, but the more I take her now the more she enjoys it. Enjoy x

I'm starting parent & tot swimming classes with Elyse at the end of the month. Parents go in the pool with the LOs and hold them, we do songs and games and just kinda introduce them to the water. I'm hoping to get the evening time slot so that it'll tire her out for bedtime

I brought her in OH's pool with me once, she looved it.. I put her in this floaty thing for babies, they sit in them and it has a sun canopy? But had my hands on her at the same time and pulled her around the pool.

We took Josh for the first time today and we just held him.
He only stopped crying when we put him on his front, but then he kept sticking his face in the water
He wasn't too impressed after the 3rd time lol

Enjoy....
Go during school hours when its quiet and when she'll be due a feed soon after you get out.
Hold her close to you to start till she gets used to the water, we bought a seat but dont use it - AJ prefers to be moving/jumping around with mummy and daddy.
Take plenty of towels and something simple like a sleepsuit to dress her in after.

Yeah the first time just hold her close to you and let her look around, go when it's quiet and don't stay in too long. Take your stuff to the side of the pool so you can wrap her up when you get out. We have just started lessons with swimbabes, but spent the summer going on our own with Freya.

Have fun!
