Problems giving Calpol.....Help!

Well, Freya is teething pretty bad, she is wearing her amber necklace, I use teething powders, dentinox teething gel and give her cold things to chew on.

But...she is still crying, dribbling, chewing on her hands and chomping on her bottom lip.

I have tried giving her calpol using both a shallow spoon and a medicine syringe, but she spits it all out everytime, tonight she gagged on a load then threw it up.

It is so upsetting not being able to help her, I hate it.

Does anyone else's LO's hate taking calpol?
Anyone got a good way of giving it?

Heeeelp!!!

Does she spit it out because she doesn't like the taste do you think?

Yeah I reckon, I have tried Calpol and Boots own brand paracetamol, she hates both. Are there any that taste better?

Yeah - apart from what mum2b_Clair has said, the only other thing I could think of would be to just give her small amounts at any one time - maybe when feeding her - so rather than giving her the full amount in one go, just try giving it in small bits?

a friend of mine's lo hates it too and finds it too sweet (how she knows this I dont know as he's 5 months old) anyway she tried a few brands and tesco own brand not as sweet and he takes it fine. Someone reccommended Arsons and Parsons (sp?) powders are they any good? x

Hm, yeah I do give it in small bits, tonight I had to give some about an hour after her last feed, she wasn't hungry, so milk wouldn't distract her then .

I guess I could try even smaller bits, but I find she spits it out however much I give her.

Do your LO's not mind taking it so much then?

Thanks, I will try Tescos. Yeah I use the powders, they were working up til yesterday when it started hurting her more. She hates taking them too, but at least they dissolve before she can spit them out!

I end up getting upset, thinking she will hate me cos I am forcefeeding her stuff for her teeth....stupid I know.

Don't get upset - I know how you feel though. Harry has had to have so much medicine in his short life so far that he now seems used to taking anything i give him. We had to give him a week-long course of anti-biotics 4 times a day when he was about 5 months old. That was a nightmare. He's also recently been on some piriton medicine and currently i'm giving him Calpol because he's not very well. He's ok taking it NOW... but wasn't at first. I remember once trying to give him some with a syringe and he was screaming and as I had the syringe in his mouth, he threw himself forward and the syringe scraped the roof of his mouth - how bad do you think I felt after that?! Hope your LO feels better soon - sounds like you're doing all you can to help her.

dont beat yourself up she clearly needs a little help with the pain poor wee lamb. Matthew takes anything put in his mouth although her gets a few medicines twice daily as he was prem and they STINK.

What about sooking up a little milk in the medicine syringe to mask the taste? You can get medicine dummies in the £shops or online she might take it from this if mixed with a little milk?

What about even trying to dip your finger in soem calpol and let her nibble away ai your finger, if you did this a couple of times maybe some calpol will go down

I read somewhere that Ibuprofen is better for teething pain as it reduces the inflammation of the gums, I know CALPOL have a baby/infant version of this, not sure it will taste any different tho x
