Anyone got an excellent cough remedy??

Katie has a bloody awful cough, she has a runny nose but i can manage that.

The cough however is a different story.

Boots Cough syrup is shite!!! My entire house stinks of Karvol and Snufflebabe but this cough isn't budging!

At 2am she woke up coughing so we just kept her uprite and she got the smallest amount of phlegm up, she just keeps swallowing it

She had her 6oz feed at 3.15 and the entire lot came back up from coughin, dp had to change he PJ's and the bed sheet and quilt, i will admit i did laugh at the sight of him covered in SMA

She is now fast asleep in her cot, i have used my cushion to prop her up (i know cushions are a big no-no) but so far so good, the cough is dormant.

But i was just wondering if anyone has a good cough relief idea that mite help her??

Also to add when she was born her left lung collapsed and she got a lung infection and she needed anti-biotics and several chest x-rays to make sure it had repaired itself, will this be affecting this cough??

Thanks in advance.

V xxx

At her age and the previous problems with her lungs I would have her checked if you haven't already. But here they say no cough syrup for her age, something that works great is honey but she's too young for honey. A humidifier can help with the congestion and keeping her elevated. But really other than that and making sure she drinks enough there isn't too much you can do to help the cough Hope she feels better soon

My LO has a bad cough aswell, she didn't have any lung problems at birth though so I'm just gonna tell you what I'm doing for her basic cough....iykwim!! We have bought some baby bed blocks which elevate the top end of the cot (DD has reflux also so this helps), we have a plug in ioniser (air purifier) which I put on during her day naps and we put a plug in vaporiser at night. We also put a jug of boiling water with some karvol drops in it near her cot (obviously not close enough to get spilled on her).

I would defo go see your gp if it doesn't clear up but also bear in mind that if she is coughing up phlegm then this is good cos its clearing off her chest and then by swallowing it the stomach acid will kill it. Hope this helps in any way, good luck and I hope shes better soon!
