been doin the gentle withdrawl technique from the no cry sleep solution, he always nurses to sleep so when he wakes he always wanted to nurse back to sleep but now he can settle all on his own if he wakes in the night and absolutely no crying at all its fab!!!! once i get the nights sorted we can start working on his naps

Oh please can you give me a bit of detail about what you do, because Thomas just will not sleep through. He doesn't wake up to nurse though, which is the difficult thing but he does wake up for his dummy.

The method i'm using works with a dummy too!!!! If you can get a copy of the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley, that what i'm doing, its fab!!! She's a breastfeeding cosleeping Mother of 4 but she has methods for all family's whether the baby is breast or bottle fed or has a dummmy, cosleeps or sleeps in a crib/cot. Her methods do not use any cry it out as she hates it (same as me).

The gentle withdrawl technique is basically if a baby uses comfort to get to sleep ie a dummy or the breast, basically what you do is when baby is just falling off to sleep and starts comfort sucking you break the suction with your finger and remove the breast/dummy, if baby starts rooting for it again gently try and hold the mouth closed just under the chin but if s/he carry's on rooting or starts to fuss pop the breast/dummy back in and try again, it can take 3-5 (sometimes more) try's until baby goes off to sleep but s/he will. The idea is the baby gets used to falling to sleep without the comfort item and learns how to get to sleep gradually without it. It takes around 10 days to see results and the first few nights can be difficult but its def worth it!!

Its quite important to read the rest of the book to understand how it all works but i'd higly recommend it, i have tried 2 other books which i just couldn't do as they involved CIO method and this one really seems to be working!!!!
