Advice on Bed Time

I think that Edward goes to bed a bit late (9:30 or 10) and he gets up at least twice in the night (2ish and 5ish) I was wondering how you get your LO to bed earlier. And if they have an earlier bedtime, how well do they sleep during the night? Have any of you moved bedtime to be what you want or is it just depend on your baby?

Jasmine went to bed around 8 at that age... I think... ha ha... I know she has been going to bed at 7 for a really long time. She has slept through with no night feeds since 6 weeks. At 4 months I was giving a dream feed at 10pm and she wouldnt get up until 6:30 or 7:00am.

Joel goes to bed around 7:30, give or take 30mins. He sleeps well during the night, up for 1-2 feedings, and straight back to sleep. Gets up around 7-8. His bedtime moved earlier around 8 weeks age, and it is actually quite natural for that to happen at that time, although it's easy enough to miss the signs that he's ready for it. I would say that in all likelyhood, Edwards could be moved back, and he'd sleep the better for it.

What time is his last nap?

What I would do in your shoes is start treating he previous nap as bedtme, and when he wakes up from it, keep everything dark and quiet and just feed him and stick him back in bed

that's what I was starting to think... today's last nap was at 5:30! I guess I could try putting him in his bed then, and if he doesn't sleep through there's no loss.

As amelie has got older her bedtime has got earlier and earlier. Shes now asleep by 7.30pm and although she wakes for feeds still she stays in bed until about 6.30am. I think 5.30 is a little early, you don;t want him to be ready for the day at half past 4 after all. Could you delay it an hour one day to 6.30pm then maybe on another day delay it again for 30mins? that way his last nap wont exsist and itll just be bedtime.

I agree with blah - 5.30 is probably too early and you may find that getting into that routine will result in very early starts to the day!!!

What time does that nap normally begin? Can you try and cut it short by say 10 mins each day and gradually bring bedtime forward?

Amelia is only a little older then edward and her day naps and bedtime looks like this:

6.30 - 7am up for the day

9 - 9.30ish - nap for around 1 hour

1pm ish - nap - usually longer at around 2 hrs.

She is then awake from 3pm till bedtime - we bath around 6.30pm and i take her straight to the bedroom where she has here last bottle of the day around 7pm. I keep the lights down and only talk to her sofltly in whispers at this time. She is usually in her cot between 7.15 and 7.30 pm - normally puts herself to sleep but sometimes needs a little help from mummy!

She stays in bed till 6.30 - 7 am only waking once for a quick feed - mostly!
