Is this a phase??

Since my son was born he has liked to suck on his fingers... in a week he will be 4 months old and since discovering his mouth more for the past few days the entire time he is awake his fingers are in his mouth, if its not his fingers its his hand or wrist or forearm. He sticks his fingers down his throat too obviously. Is this just a phase that will stop when he gets a bit older, or do you think he is forming a habit? He wont take a pacifier, he is not really interested in chewing on toys yet. Thought it might be hunger so offering the breast more but does not seem to be that.

If you think he is forming a habit is there anything you can recommend that I do now? Or should i just chill out and let it be. IHe literally is just sucking on himself constantly.

I think it's just a phase, some babies will continue to suck their fingers or thumb if they don't take a pacifier. But all babies do this, he has just discovered he has hands and a mouth. Just a normal part of development..even my babies that took pacifiers did it

Elyse has been doing this for weeks. First it was discovering her hands and all that, now she's teething and she's miserable. She sucks on them ferociously.

Just let him do it. Its all part of learning for them, soon it will be feet in mouth! Also, could be teething

Tyler does this all the time..Im hoping its just a phase but he chews anything he can get his hands on so I think it is just a phase, especially his muslin squares or bibs that I cant imagine tasting nice :S

i thought it was just a phase but was thinking he does it too much but guess all babies are doing whatever they need too. Thanks girls!
