losing the dummy....

Has anyone ditched the dummy when their lo was around 14/ 15 months and relied on it too sleep ?

my son has had a dummy since day 2 and rarely falls asleep without it ( when he does its either in th car or pushchair but never in the cot)

he has recently started to bite little holes in his dummys ( has been teething loads ) and after i buy more today im thinking if he bites more holes through the new ones i'll try to stop using them as the latest ones only lasted 2 days !

if anyone has experienced a similar situation how did you do it and how did it go ? thanks

hi hun,

Kira didn't bite holes in her dummy but about a week ago i took her to a toy shop and brought her a teddy to sleep with all afternoon while finding it i kept telling her that this is so you don't have a dummy, i took her to her cot later that day with her new doll and took her dummy's out her cot, and took them out, she cryed for hour and a half and went to sleep not looked back since.

she was just over 1 wehn i did this.

hope this helps hun

wow, really ? does she not want it if she wakes at night? that sounds fantastic, do you think the teddy was the key ? cause he has a bear that he always has in his cot (from 3 months) but never takes any notice of it... lol

if he chews into these new dummys then im going to try i think, has to be done sometime i guess thanks

We took Landon's at like 13mo, we just told him he was a big boy now and he didn't need it, he really understood that already where as my 2nd Casen would not have, but we juts took it and he was fine. He asked for a couple days and was a bit upset before bed but he was fine. Casen we didn't take his until he was almost 2, I really felt he wasn't ready before that, but when we did it we did it the same way, just took it away. We will do the same with Hayden when we feel he's ready

I thought she would wake in the night, but she didn't she seemed to understand me when i was telling her she wasnt having it anymore, i took her round the toy shop and let her choose one she liked i wanted it small just for bed and it doesn't go out of the cot, i thought about using one that was in her cot, but thought it wouldn't make much of a thing when she already has it that is why i brought a new one for her.

she isn't bothered about it at all, her friends have them but she just gives them back now instead of trying to use it herself.

its like something clicked that she didn't need it.

hope it goes well for you hun keep us updated on how it goes
