ECV experiences?

Hi ladies....

Migrating over from 3rd Tri to ask those of you who have had ECV or know anyone who has, and how you/they found it?
My baby is still breech at 36 weeks, I have to go for another scan on Tuesday (26th) and to see the consultant. They will then discuss ECV options and delivery options.
I'm terrified of a section, but have not really heard too many good things about ECV. I have a week to decide what my answer will be when the consultant mentions it.....what do you ladies think? To turn or not to turn?

Thanks in advance x

I had one at 39 wks and to be honest, it was very uncomfortable but it's an interactive procedure - if you need a break or if it starts hurting then you tell them.

The consultant gave up after 5mins, if that because there was no way my baby was turning - her head would move but her bum couldn't get passed my hip.

I'm sure it won't be as uncomfortable for you because your baby wont be as big and you'll still have more fluid. Mine shouldn't have been done at 39wks but I got mucked about so much by the hospital, there wasn't much choice!

And regarding delivery options, I was terrified about a c-section, it's something I thought wouldn't happen to me and I never bothered researching about it.. all my energy went into looking into water births.

But in all honesty, I had an amazing experience with my section - the team were fantastic and it really wasn't anything to worry about at all. I'm definately one of the ones who have had a very pleasant experience with a section.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy hun and hope you get the delivery you want xx

I wasn't allowed ECV and he was footling breech so just couldnt be delivered so I don't really know but I just wanted to say I was terrified and so so upset about the section but it was really fine. So try not to worry too much either wayx

Thank you for your repliess ladies. Beancounter....I have been getting quite tearfull over the past couple of days, my DH is trying his best to help, but understandably wants whats best for baby and me, so does not seem to understand when I say I feel like I've been cheated out of childbirth, and don't feel like I've completed the "process". He says he'd be more scared of giving birth naturally and I'm blowing a section out of all proportion!
Urgh.....turn baby turn!

I understand exactly how you feel hun! I felt like I had been cheated out of childbirth when I found out at 37 weeks I'd have to have a section. Erin was footling breech but they still tried with no success. It was very painful too - the info the hospital gave me said they would use oil, but they didn't. The dr finally gave up after 5 or 10 mins as she wasn't going to budge and her foot was caught somewhere. I spent the last few weeks of my pregnancy scared and upset about the way things had turned out when I should have been excited about meeting my baby. Anyway, I had a c-section and it was a really positive experience in the end (I went into labour naturally on the morning of my c-section anyway). The team of drs, nurses and midwives were fabulous. Don't be scared, you will be absolutely fine - just think about meeting your little bubba at the end of it all xx

I was quite tearful too and I wanted his to turn but he was obviously quite stuck but I too would say that the section was quite a positive experience, I went into labour the day before so I ended up having an emergency section and Finn was quite ill with HDN and was whisked off to neonatal without any skin to skin or anything, but I think with a planned section and a well baby you have a lot more control over what happens and I didn't find the recovery hard at all, I was wheeled down to neonatal and cuddling Finn after four hours, I walked down there after 12 hours- wouldn't say I felt fine but a lot better than I expected.

I don't think you are blowing it up out of proportion, it is a big deal hope baby turns for you! But like AC said don't let it spoil the last bit of your pregnancy, I spent a week standing on my head before realising I was just miserable and had better things to be doing!
