When should they stand supported?

Lilly is 9 weeks old today and she loves standing it makes her so happy she pushes down with her feet in determination and giggles away and beams smiling she's so proud of herself. So me and OH let her stand with us holding her under the arms to take the weight when she gets tired but OH's mum always tells oh off and says she'll have bandy legs, she's so strong she doesn't even need the support but we do for obvious reasons she loves it so much though if she's crying it totally brings her out of it and she just laughs. Just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this.

I;ve only recently let her stand with me holding onto her arms. Before then she'd only be able to support herself for a few secs before folding lol

I asked the HV about this when Dylan was about 11 weeks as he had been standing like that for weeks when OH mum said the bandy legs thing. She said that its absolute nonsense, that Dylan was bang on developement for his age and told me to carry on playing games like see saw and letting him get used to sitting up and pushing himself up with his legs.
Dylan loves it too hun, if I sit him on my knee he is always pushing up with his legs to stand!

Mine have always stood up supported since they started stretching their legs out. It doesn't do any harm xxx
