I smoked before I was pregnant but the last one I had before I found out was New Years Eve, because I was shaving a drink, I found out, I think in February, so I had already gone almost 2 months. I was a big smoker in the UK, mainly down the stress/unhappy, but I didn't smoke at work.

I found, at a couple of times during pregnancy, I had a craving for a ciggi, but never had one. It has not bothered me not smoking at all, but when my friends were here in February, we had a night out and I had 2. Even when I was smoking, I kept asking myself if I was enjoying it or not. I did in a way but the next day, I knew I had quit!

BUT, whilst having a small beer the other night, I told OH I wanted a ciggi but I didn't like his. He said, oh don't start (he's a chimney!!!!), but I said I may have the odd one IF I want to when having a drink, more so probably in the summer when we have BBQ's. The good thing is that it's too cold to stand outside so the crave passes pretty damn quick! lol

The trouble is, and i think only smokers or ex smokers will understand what i mean ...

no amount of facts or scare tactics will make you stop, you have to want to stop for yourself. Those new pictures they put on cigarette packets to scare you dont bother me ...

Thanks for the responses girls, postive and negative

I think unless you have been a smoker or are a smoker, i find it hard to take advice on board as to how hard it is but you can do it comments. You have never had the feeling nor while you ever. But i do apperiacate taking time to give advice.

I would never ever smoke around jacob or expose him to it. This is something i am totally against hence why i gave up when i was preg. I never smoked or drunk not even a glass of achohal when i was preg.

I was just asking for ex-smokers to see if they found it hard etc etc. Not to be cristised on ours choices. We are adults and this is what we do. I could go on and on about people who let there babies cry etc but i dont i keep my opinion to myself and dont make you feel bad about your choice to do that. So if im a smoker i would appericate the respect from other people not to comment on how bad this is for my child. I would never do anything to harm my child and i dont think anyone on this forum would.

NONE of us are smoking round our children none of us are exposing them to it. We all know the health risks to it. But like i say we are adults and this is OUR choice.

XxxX

It is said that ex smokers are the worst non smokers for being critical, my mum is and she admits it, she lectured and lectured me, a long time before I got pregnant. I quit because it was my choice, I wanted to, I miss it now, but not enough to start again. But yes, I did not smoke until later in the night when I was with my friends, but the more I sat there saying I want 1, I want 1, but I can't, the more I wanted 1. If you follow. So I had one to remind myself that I don't want to anymore, if you are still following, but I was never a heavy smoker anyway, so I am lucky, in my eyes, that the craving doesn't take over my life.

No Ema, I agree, I don't believe any of us expose our precious little ones to smoke. On New Years Eve we were invited to some friends house, OH and the friends smoked, BUT they smoked outside. In their own house, they respected the fact that none of them wanted to expose Gabbi to the smoke. I thought that was so good of them, after all, we came into their home, not into ours. I am so waiting for the weather to get better here so I can go and have a drink with friends in town, too smokey now to go in the cafes, but roll on spring/summer!

Sorry but I dont feel bad AT ALL about posting what I did... I dont care if people get made reading what I wrote either.

Smoking is a bad thing, in every way. I know addiction is very hard to overcome, and like you guys said, its your choice... But coming from the other side of things, sometimes choices you make are selfish and can ruin the lives of your family.

My Dad was selfish and didn't quit, and because of his choice I grew up without a father, and basically a mother because she worked constantly to support us. I dont have a Dad to walk me down the aisle at my wedding... I never got family trips or lots of toys or clothing because of our financial problems... Jasmine doesn't have a Grandpa.

Again... I dont feel bad or sorry for posting this and being against smoking. All the pictures and ads you see are true.

Also they say smoking while pregnant give you smaller babys? thats a load of rubbish my auntie had a baby at 11lb 3oz!

Wow okay geez I'll shut my mouth then . I thought it was common knowledge that it was bad to smoke and breastfeed.

I know i will torn apart for this but....i still smoke and im pregnant now - although pls dont lecture me about breastfeeding as im not doing that anyway once baby is born...

anyway im trying to give up but its not happening i have always enjoyed smoking - i assumed that at one point i would feel guilty and give up but the amount of people who have smoked though thier pregnancy and babys have been healthy and big..

I have also asked my midwife for help giving up and she is sending me to a cessation midwife but has warned it will take a few months and the best thing i can try and do is cut down but dont stress about it..

I fell pregnant by accident and to be honest before this baby i never wanted to have kids so it may sound selfish but i find it hard to give up everything that i enjoyed (even though im happy being preg but one reason i wont breastfeed is i want my body back after 9 months)

Im doing my best im not taking any medication i shouldnt im not drinking, im not eating anything i shouldnt but iam still smoking because i just cant seem to quit - its so stupid though because i would never smoke around the baby?!?! which sounds mad because my baby is getting my smoke and chemicals now but im completely lost and trying to give up is so so hard because if i wasnt pregnant i wouldnt give up and i dont actually wanna give up....

ok ...im ready to be torn apart
