Tom wont drink:(

Tom wont drink at all. He wont open his mouth for anything other than a spoon. First thing in the morning he will drink half his bottle, but that is it for the rest of the day!

I am constantly giving him babyrice, porridge, jelly, milky cheesy mash but it is getting ridiculous. This has been coming on for months but has been particulary this bad for two weeks now. He even went through a stage of 3 days were he wouldnt open his mouth for food or drink and had to go to hospital for rehydration.

I have tried changing teats, giving him cups, syringing, everything! The only that works for a min or to is letting his sip from a glass because he wants to chew it.

I have tried flavouring the milk, giving it hot, giving it cold.

Any ideas please? I am going out of my mind. On a good day he is only getting 8oz of fluid!

has he got toothy pegs yet?
One idea what i do with Tabs sometimes as she can be a fussy mare with bottles is 5 mins before a feed put some teething gel on the gums, she like the taste too and it gets her sucking. They are hungry but sometimes it hurts to eat and suck.
another idea which may sound bad (which i DO NOT want to get slated for)but i did this with Tabs when she cut back to about 12oz a day for 3 days is forget the solids totally as it may be that he is getting all these delicious goodies that he doesnt want boring old milk! do the milk at the same time as you were doing it normally etc and be adamant with it, every time he moans etc offer the bottle/ cup or whatever he is using better normally. Sure enough she started drinking it and took 1-2 days to get back to "normal" whatever that is with Tabs lol!
Anyway just a couple of ideas and i really hope he improves hun

he has four teeth and other teeth are coming through quickly. He wont let me put teething gel in, and if i trick him and put it on a spoon he cries like it stinges.

I tried stopping food, but then he still wont drink the milk...gah!!!!!!!!!

Woop! He drank his midday bottle today in two sittings for the first time in a month!!! I put strawberry nesquick in it...do you think it is harmful? I figured he eats everything anyway and it is additive and preservative free. He gets bucket loads of sugar in his diet from all his meds anyway and is currently underweight.

I think it's probaby more important that he gets the fluids but maybe next time you speak to your Dr or HV just check with them? I'm so pleased that he's done a bit better for you
