Australian Health Care

I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of a run down as to what I should expect in the way of antenatal care here in Australia, on the public health system.

I am from the UK and would assume things are pretty similar but my doctor has been useless so far and I am still a bit in the dark. I am 10.5 weeks along and have my booking in appointment on the 24th of July (I'll be about 13.5 by then). I have been told no scan until 20 weeks and they won't even try to find a heart beat before then!

Anyone been involved in a Know Your Midwife scheme? What's that like?

I'm high risk but I can give you a general idea.
They won't normally see you until 12 weeks unless there's medical reasons to do so.
They normally try for the heartbeat from 15 weeks
They should do a 12 week scan for dating, to check for downs and other problems.
Then you have the 18-22 week scan. Checking for problems, gender (if you wish to know)
Up until 28 weeks (i think) appointments are every 4 weeks.
From 28 weeks until 36 weeks, every 2 weeks.
From 36 weeks, every week.
