IUI or IVF next???

Or should we go straight to IVF?? am so confused. Doctor here says its a waste of money if there are no male issues - DH has 15% antibodies but this is considered v low - but doc in UK thinks IUI is def worth a try and is def the next step.... any insights greatly appreciated xx

Hi

I did 3 x IUI's before my 1st IVF, given the choice I would have skipped IUI and gone straight to IVF because the success rates are higher.

I have a friend attending the same clinic, we area both classed as unexplained, she is going straight to IUI.

I found the stress of 3 x failed IUI and the length of time on the hormones hard.

IUI's is cheaper for the NHS to perform which is why the UK doc maybe recommending it.

I have a much more positive feeling about IVF.

Good luck

xxxx

We were in the same boat and planning to go right to IVF but my doctor recommended to try 3 cycles of IUI first because it is less expensive and less intrusive. We have MFI, so our IUIs only have about a 10% success rate. If you don't have MFI, the success rate for IUI is 20% which might be worth a try because maybe you will get lucky. If money is not a factor, skip to to IVF because the success rates are 60-75%. It is a few more doctors visits though so it depends on you. I agree with Icklefish that getting BFNs on IUIs is very stressful and depressing so you may have to endure that. Keep us posted what you decide.
I will be doing IVF this month if my 3rd IUI fails. I hope this is our month!

My doc would of done whatever I wanted. I'm 38 and she agreed that we didn't have much time waste! So, we went with one cycle IUI, second cycle 100 mg clomid and IUI and now we are headed for IVF this next month. Clomid and IUI was successful, but I am currently miscarrying!
I think if I had to do it all over again- I would of jumped right into the Ivf. The only thing that made me not do ivf right away was the fear of having them take over my body and all those injections. I guess I will be doing now anyways!
