Well I'm about 45 mins away from picking up my two precious boys
(Two ragdoll kittens) and someone called to say Hi
and made a comment that I have to admit....made me think. She said "Do you think perhaps you're using animals to replace the want for a baby?" I'm not sure if those were the exact words but I know what she meant. We have 3 dogs and soon to be 3 cats. I love all my furbabies more than anything, but am I trying to fill the "gap"? Hmmm..

Makes me wonder.
Still.....I love being surrounded by animals.

I think all of us multi furbaby family people do... :hugs: But you know what.... I wouldnt trade it for one minute... because its those fur babies that lick away every tear that TTC brings... and well they keep use sane...... I dont think I could do any TTCing with out my girls... :hugs:

Cant wait to see your additions :hugs:

I think that was rude of that person to say NN. I know I compensate my animals for lack of a baby and so what! I had lots of animals pre TTC and have even more now. I've always been a huge animal lover and nothing will change that.

At least our furkids don't say insensitive stupid things to us, they don't give us advice when we're upset, all they do is cuddle us and thats all we really want anyway :hugs:

Thanks girls, I guess deep down I probably am compesating for children, but who cares? I love by furbabies.

(btw, my boys are sooooooooo adorable, my other cat is sitting on the window sill outside, it's a face off! I will introduce them in a couple of days when things settle)

I don't think keeping animals is a compensation for children - I mean when you do get pg Neyney I am sure you will still want the furbabies! I think you just have a lot of love to give and if there are furbabies who need love you wanna give them some! Love is amazing because if you have more things to love, you have more love - you don't have to share it out in smaller portions - it just gets bigger! I hope one day soon Neyney you have house full of dogs, cats and babies! xxxx

PS yesterday we had 5 cats and today we have 8!

I have two cats - and we got them as kittens when we started TTC because I was going mental - 2.5 years down the line I still think I am going mental about TTC - but i have the most beautiful two cats in the world who keep me from jumping off a cliff!!!

Hey NN

I'm sure they didn't mean to cause you any hurt - i guess some people don't think and i can definitely be accused of that! I regularly suffer from foot-in-mouth-itis!!

More importantly.... how are your gorgeous new kittens!!! Ooh lovely!:happydance:

I have 1 cat and DH has said that after his crappy SA results, we can purchase a new kitten too! I'm all for a bit of replacement therapy - all that love to give, you need to share it!

after my first MC we got our first kitten. She was born the day I MCd. Anyway, I had to go to the nurse for a check up and for some reason I mentioned the kitten. The nurse replied "oh so she'll be your baby" Even now I kick myself for not kicking off at her. The little sod disappeared just over a week after my EDD.

I do spoil our cats though. My reasoning is, I have no LOs to spoil and I spoil the nieces and nephew enough, so....why not have an 8' climbing frame and a million toys and a posh collar (for the little one - the big 2 don't like them) and clothes for the cats?

I compensate for my lack of baby with presents for myself. I buy books because I have too much time on my hands. I spoil myself because i have no child to spoil.

Every time I buy something new and someone looks at me funny I say "Well, if I had a baby I would not be spending this on myself so let me enjoy it while it lasts."

That is my idea of being hopeful...

I think we all compensate for our lack of children. I shower my cat with love because he is the only baby I have.

Hi Ney Ney,

This is what I think. Usually people who love animals love children (no matter what they say). I think we are all 'designed' to love and nurture for other creatures and some of us have more love to give than others. I don't think your love and affection for your fur babies are in place of a baby ... I think they are as well as, but for now you are only able to express that affection for your pets. The fact that you are TTC is making you think if you are using your little critters as surrogates for a bubba, but that's not really the case at all. You will be just as mushy and loving to your pets when you have children ...

I have noticed myself carrying my little kittens/cats around like they are little children and every morning I carry my new little kitty around on my shoulder patting her back as if I am winding her. She loves it, makes herself all floppy and purrs like a tractor. My last cat was exactly the same and they both followed/follow me from room to room. I refer to myself as 'mummy' to the cat and it's only because we are TTC that this strikes a chord in my brain every now and then to make me wonder if I'm a loolah.

However, I know deep down that it's just because I'm soft about animals and his has nothing to do with a replacement for a baby.

I can't see the photos of your kittens Ney Ney. I wonder why?

I've noticed this on a few threads that there is a mention of pictures but I can't see them or even a link to them. Any ideas anyone?

Oh, Ney Ney, beckic and Tishi your furbabies are gorgeous! I soooo want some animals but we live in flats and there is no cat flap on door and to have dog would be cruel as we are both out all day, plus we thinking to move to abroad! Hopefully in the future we will be able to have some cos I love dogs, grew up with them had three poodles-Cindy(brown miniture), Leo(apricot toy) and Bella(black toy) all beautiful dogs!

Ney Ney I don't think they are yr surrogate children, as others have said you just have alot of love to give and you know what even if they were for this purpose, who cares-yr just giving them the love and care that they deserve!

Your cat is gorgouse Tish! What a beautiful photo - I hope you have that one framed!

Re not seeing photos - I know that Wishing4ababy never gets to see the pics either, when she is using her work computer. The company she works for have disabled certain bits and bobs from showing (no doubt in an effort to get people to do more work!:lol). Are you using your own home computer or one elsewhere? xxx

Oh Magic, I can't believe you just asked about having the photo framed.

My husband has literally just come home and presented me with a framed picture of my kitten. He chose this one:

Re: My computer and seeing photos. I don't really understand it as I am using my home one and see nearly everyones. It's just the odd post where I can't even see a link. I'm changing over my computer to a new one at the end of September, so will see if that makes a difference.

Hummmmm i had my lil Boxer dog way before TTC. I do treat him like a baby and to be honest if i didnt have him right now after TTC for nearly 2 years i would be in a worst place than i am now....but he takes my mind of TTC as he takes up so much of my time.

So i guess in a way he does fill that part of me which is missing and i dont really care when people laugh at me for treating him like a baby coz he is my little furbaby and i wouldnt be without him!

Oh wow! They are truly amazing. Don't they look big too, really full, rich lustrous coats and beautiful colouring. I wondered what ragdolls looked like when you referred to them and now I know.

Beautiful!
