Right untill the very end of my pregnancy I was eating NOTHING like I was before I was pregnant. Not litterally nothing, but only when I was hungry, which wasn't very often. After my fall when I was 32 weeks pregnant (or there abouts) I was told they found "keytones" (I'm sure that's probably not what they are, or how it's spelt, but that's what it sounded like to me) in my urine and it meant my body was eating itself because I wasn't eating enough. Then I went too far, eating too much, induldging in things I shouldn't have been. So here I am, 3 months post-pregnancy, with 2 stone extra weight that doesn't seem to be shifting because I can't stop eating. I feel disgusting. I don't want to eat so much but I am so, so hungry all the time!

I'm eating loads too - you need more calories breastfeeding than you did when you were pregnant...I'm always hungry. People on the Atkins diet can produce large amounts of ketones, so it might have been that the balance in what you were eating wasn't right.
Are you drinking loads of water? Breastfeeding really dehydrates you, and if you drink more water you might find that you don't want to eat so much x

No that's my downfall. I can eat for england but I never seem to remember to drink. I've been buying bottles of water but they last so long. I guess I will have to start being persistant with myself!

You can wikipedia Ketones if you're interested in the biology. Basicaly it is exactly what the doc told you.
Unless you're eating crap for food all the time, you may just want to try exercising it off. Lots of women have thyroid issues after pregnancy due to the hormonal swings in the body.
Eat small regular meals, shoot for 1800 calories if you're BF and get your body moving :)
You're not alone... I've got lots more to go and its not moving very fast :(

Yea i agree with the porridge its the ONLY thing that has ever filled me up till lunch, i cant eat it just now though  You just need to find some really filling things, or be really firm with yourself and train your body not to want so much. Or find healthy things that you like to eat and eat very small portions every 2-3 hours so you're not pilling in calories but also keeping yourself filled

totally agree with you! i never seem to have time to eat anymore! Ali keeps me well on my toes and i think that is why i have lost weight so fast. i will start to prepare something to eat, he will cry, i go to him and about two or so hours later i will return to what i was preparing. by that point i no longer want it!

Maybe try looking at the foods your eating? :) Processed foods make you gain weight and make it harder to lose :( Try more natural grown foods :)

I agree, look at the type of foods you are eating... And drink up! Your body easily confuses hunger and thirst. Try and keep an eye on the type of things your eating, and slowly work to cut down.
While your body uses more calories while breastfeeding, you also should be loosing, not gaining pregnancy weight at a healthy rate if you are eating balanced and doing some excersize.
Are you taking vitamins? Pre-natal vitamins are recommended to be taken while breastfeeding too.
What kind of excersize are you currently doing?? Things like going for walks or doing work on a yoga ball are great ways to help burn and tone... And they are things you can do with the baby... no reason why you cant push the stroller or put bubs in a kangaroo pouche carrier (lol cant remember the name of them).

Try and eat more yoghurts, fruits, nuts, (unless allergies) anything that nature grows or natural... carbs been a big killer!!! And sugar, that can add on a lot of weight. The more water you drink the healthier your kidneys, which flush out fat from our bodies which means easier to lose weight. :) I have a huge list of healthy snacks if interested. With walking, if you can try and walk 30 minutes a day...maybe buy a baby and mum yoga video? Something you can both do together and bond!!! Good thing about walking, put baby in a sling or a pusher and off you go!!!

I'm having the same problem! I've never been so hungry in my entire life. My naturopath told me to be careful and not cut out too many carbs, you and your baby need them to produce breast milk. She also told me that a lot of people can't lose the baby weight until they quit bf because your body is thinking you might starve you and the baby. In the last couple of days I've really set my mind to eating healthier. I have to have this weight off by 1 year pp. Good luck!

It all depends on the kind of carbs you are eating, and when :)

Yep! And usually when people are hungry feeling its because of lack of hydration, or lack of a certain nutrient that the body is craving. Most people dont know how to eat a balanced diet which causes them to be hungry feeling and unsatisfied.
There are good carbs and bad carbs... Basically foods with good healthy carbs are things like full grain pastas, brown breads, bran cereals, fruits, vegetables and beans etc...
Things made with white flour are full of unhealthy sugars and have been processed so much that alot of the fibre (which helps with digestion) and vitamins are removed. Which in turn just adds unecessary bad carbs to your diet.
On top of that, what you drink plays a part too... Water is the most important fluid in your diet... Milk is good, real juices are also key for good carb consumption. Drinking things like kool-aid, other mixed juices, beer and alcohol add to the bad carbs.
Plus all the things which are bad carbs contribute to diabetes and heart disease.

If you think your hungry, try a glass of water (add real lemon) and wait 30 minutes, because most times you are thirsty.
Limit sugars, they will make your sugars yoyo, this is bad! Also be careful on your salt intake, that will make you retain fluid and you'll hold it in your mid area. If you can avoid white items, breads, pastas, sugars, rice they are really bad for you!!! They have been stripped of all the goodness!
Sodas/soft drinks are bad for weight loss, yes even diet... :( You don't have to cut them out but maybe limit them to when your out? Protein is great for weight loss :)

I was told same. They found keytones in my urine and I lost 2 stone during pregnancy and a further 1 stone at birth and dropped two dress sizes. But I'm also eating a huge amount now and I don't know why. I've also been careful with my diet and I see the pounds coming on and it's weight I cannot afford to gain as I still have half a stone to lose to get to my ideal weight for my height.
