Is there anything I can do?

Is there anything I can do to help prevent another prem baby? I had a son at 24 weeks, my cervix is quite short. I gave birth early due to chorioamnionitis.... What can I do to prevent it happening again???

You should be seeing a OBGYN who spec in High Risk pregnancy. They will do everything in there power to hope it doesnt happen again. Thats what they told me to do, if I become pregnant again

Yeah hun your obgyn should be monitoring you. I had my daughter at 24 weeks same as you. They say that it shouldn't happen again. I really hope they are right. Please keep us updated on your pregnancy. I'd love to see how you progress because I want to try for another baby next year. Good luck!!
p.s how old is your daughter now? Hows she doin?

Hi I had pre-eclampsia I haven't heard of chorioamnionitis, but I think they will monitor you like they will do with me.

have the dr's mentioned putting a cervical cerclage (stitch) in? they can be very worthwhile if a cervix is weak or has shortened and can be put in at between 12-14 weeks.

As for the chorioamnionitis I would think that was sadly a one-off, I'm very sorry you lost your son :hugs:

Ther are also drugs such as salbutamol that can relax the uterus to prevent preterm labour, very useful if your uterus is irritable.

I am seeing a high risk doctor, my first appointment is the 7th. I have also had a lot of genetic problems (that's why 2 pregnancies ended. Not viable with life.) My son was born at 24 weeks, he died 6 days later. He was too sick to make it. Too many complications. I'm lucky I've had a full term baby after BUT went into prem labour multiple times. A lot of bed rest. And now my cervix is again shorter, i'm a little scared.

The problem with chorioamnionitis, you can not test for it, they do not know you have it until it's too late. I'm going to talk to the doctor about the cervical cerclage, I'm going to weigh up the pros and cons. Has anyone here had it done?

I havent had it done but I do know people who have had it done and found it very sucessful, my problem was my uterus so therfore the cerclage wouldnt have helped....I hope you get something sorted hun :hugs:

Carley I haven't really been told much about chorioamnionitis. Is it something very possible to re-occur again?? Where exactly does it come from? That's waht i'd like to know..

I'm sorry about your loss I couldn't imagine losing a baby. You are very brave for trying again. I really hope things work out for you this time!

Medical information on chorioamnionitis;

Chorioamnionitis is an infection of two membranes of the placenta (the chorion and the amnion) and the amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby. Chorioamnionitis can cause bacteremia (blood infection) in the mother and may lead to preterm birth and serious infection in the newborn baby. Other terms for chorioamnionitis include intra-amniotic infection and amnionitis.

It's supposed to happen in 2% of pregnancies but if you've had it before you have a slightly higher chance.
